Curtiss Kittyhawk III , No 112 Squadron - April 1944.

The last aerial victories scored in a Kittyhawk in the Mediterranean Theatre occurred on April 7, 1944, When 112 Squadron RAF encountered Focke-Wulf 190s of I./SG 4 over Rieti aerodrome in Central Italy. Flight Sergeant Peters attacked an aircraft taking off, seeing strikes and noticing that his No. 2, F/Sgt Warburton, was with him, Peters then attacked this aircraft which still had its wheels down. The Focke WUlf blew up and crashed in flames just northeast of the aerodrome.
